St. Anthony Foundation of Charlotte. Who we are:
Vincent E. Voci MD, a Plastic Surgeon in Charlotte and a founding member of the St. Anthony Foundation of Charlotte, had a small private pilot St. Anthony Party in June of 2006 with about 125 people attending. They enjoyed food and wine from 12 Italian / Mediterranean restaurants and raised money for charity. It was a big hit also resulting in the creation of the Foundation and a committee of 25 people interested in growing the event for 2007. Nearly 200 people attended in 2007 raising $4000 for Charlotte's local Nevins Center for the Disabled. The Foundation has even bigger plans for 2010 as we continue to grow, promoting Charity through Italian Culture, Food, Song,and Italian Businesses in the Charlotte region. In 2010 we expect well over 300 people.
The St Anthony Foundation of Charlotte is applying for a 501(c)(3) charitable non profit organization status. Our main fundraising event each year will be what we expect to very rapidly become the best Italian Festival in the Southeast: St Anthony Festa Italiana Charlotte. We will further develop this event in 2010 utilizing the help and contributions of the same and more Italian Restaurants, Vendors, Entertainers, and Retailers donating food, wine, services, products, and song that they are most proud of. Of course, we also want the Media to join us and play a very big role in the festivities to help raise money for the Nevins Center Foundation for the Disabled and promote our St Anthony Festa Italiana Charlotte for many years to come. We were covered by two television stations last year.
Nevins Center Foundation for the Disabled www.nevinsinc.org has received $16,000 from our Foundation's Festas. Nevins trains disabled people for the work place and have been for over 50 years in Charlotte. They have a budget of over 3 million dollars per year helping many mentally and physically challenged people support and house themselves. They have placed workers in many of our local businesses like Harris Teeter and Carolinas Medical Center. Funding is always difficult and we can help.
